As some of you may know, Rachel had foot surgery a couple of weeks ago to remove a "mass" that was growing on the underside of her foot near her arch. She had been in a lot of pain and it took a long time to figure out what was going on. After visits to the pediatrician, two specialists, an X-ray and an MRI later we determined that she needed surgery. The surgery went well and she is recovering really well. Now we come to the part where the "mass" is sent off for a biopsy. It has been determined that it is a tumor and that there are "abnormal" cells that need to be further studied and tested. The Doctor called us yesterday to inform us that this may be a malignant tumor a.k.a. cancer. I am nervous to find out the results. I just can't imagine an outcome where my sweet little Rachel is going to have to undergo Chemothearopy and all that goes along with fighting cancer. I am hopeful that this is just a scare and may amount to nothing. Please keep Rachel in your prayers! We are having a family fast on Thursday if you would like to join in. I will keep you all posted.

ReplyDeleteJustin had a tumor the size of a small apple removed out of his ankle when Kendall was 5 weeks old. It took 1-2 weeks to get the results back from the lab and they told us it was a really rare vascular type of tumor that grows very rapidly. That was scary but the good news was that it was benigne. I just cried and cried and was so thankul for all the prayers in our behalf. I've been thinking about you guys all day and know some of the feelings you are having. Rachel is a special little girl and is so brave to go through all this.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, the camera I got is a Nikon D something. Justin got it for me and I have no idea what I'm doing. There is so much to learn and I've been getting so frustrated! Your pictures look great. What kind did you get?

ReplyDeleteOh Nic...my heart is breaking for you because I know the pain you are feeling. There is nothing worse than watching your children suffer and knowing that you have no control over it. Please feel free to contact me at anytime. I would love to talk to you. I remember that it helped talking to someone who had been in my situation. I will fast and pray for her and the rest of your family.
ReplyDeleteLove ya!

ReplyDeleteNicole and James- we are so sad to hear this news about your little Rachael. We hope that yes, it is just a scare, and that she won't have to suffer with anything more. she is such a little darling. I remember though when she was born and she had her surgeries and how well she did with everything, and how you all handled it with such grace. We will keep you in our prayers, and will be anxiously waiting to hear the outcome of the lab results. Take care until then....
