Humble Beginnings - a great place to land.

At the end of our second day on the road we landed at Gee Gee and Great Papa's house (My Mom's parents).  I love the smell of the Russian Olive trees in the dry air, the winding roads, the creeks, the bluffs, the old small town charm, and the way that Grandma and Grandpa's house sits proudly at the top of the hill on 30th.  The comforts of a Grandma's house are unmatched.  We pulled up to see Grandma at the kitchen window, the table was all set and ready for us. After only a few minutes Grandpa came in from the farm and removed his boots to greet us with hugs and kisses. The table was set and ready for our arrival.  We were treated to a true meal of comfort foods, chicken casserole, a yummy green salad, and watermelon.

Brittany and the kids found a soft place to land in the den.
Here is my Grandpa in his spot at the kitchen table.  He has been sitting in this same chair for as long as I can remember.

Grandma can be seen as pictured below at pretty much any given time.  It takes a lot of time to keep up with her nine children!
The next morning Grandma gave me and Brittany a true gift.  She watched my kids so that we could go and visit with my Granny (Dad's Mom) who had been in poor health for the past couple of weeks.  This memory will always be dear to me as it is the last time I will see my Granny on this earth.  She passed away two days ago in the comfort of her home and with her loved ones.  I am so grateful to have been able to be in her presence so close to her death.  She was the most amazing woman.  I will always be indebted to my Grandma for allowing me that special time with my Granny.

These pictures were taken at her home that day.  This is the piano that my Father learned to play.  From plunking out lessons on this old piano my Dad has become a phenomenal musician and composer and has been able to provide for our family for all of these years through his gift.  This piano represents the dedication of my Granny who from humble means gave her children the gift of hope in their future.  She invested herself in all of the pursuits of her children, my Father in particular.  I love this piano. It is beautiful to me.
To me, it is a symbol of my Granny.

  1. I love that you posted pictures of that piano. I'm glad you got to have one more vist with Granny, too. It's been hard for me to put my feelings about her into words that really do her justice.
